guys. i went to tpsmea a month and a half ago and am still on cloud nine. you know how you can have an incredible experience and afterwards, little things trigger the whole aura of being there? yep, countless times the past couple of weeks. text messages, donuts, soundtracks, hair color, boots, piano notes, q-tips, and scarves. you had to be there.
also, you can't adequately explain it to anyone. only little sisters who know how sentimentally insane you are can kind of imagine what was so special and why you just burst into tears in the car.
i think that the quote "don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened" is a little overused, but honestly, i've done both.
my friends. post-state, the hugs are tighter, the smiles are increased, and the general knowledge of inside jokes makes things better. spending 3 nights in a hotel room with 4 girls does something to you (good and bad, depending on how late you stay up and how easily you get bags under your eyes ;), and spending 73 hours with your new "sisters and brothers" made coming home feel odd, like how do we go back to real life, and things will never be the same - i'm glad i got to know you better.
a quick run-down of what happens:
region weekend: drove up to the school where the conference was held; rehearsals all evening. next morning, rehearsals until concert in the evening.
state weekend: drove up to San Marcos, and the next day, we had rehearsals all day Thursday-Saturday until our concert in the evening.
region clinician/choir director: Dr. Betsey Weber
state clinician/choir director: Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe
Dr. Betsey Weber demonstrated such loyalty-invoking leadership {does that even make sense?}. she taught us so well - so wonderfully - that i sang that concert on Saturday night for her. and even though i never got a chance to say thank you because of our back-to-back rehearsals, i would run and grab and hug her if i ever saw her again.

and Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe was incredible. the way he refined the sound of the all-state choir, directed it to a single point at the back of the auditorium in one phrase and then let the echoing "yumness" of it smother us in another phrase was so cool. he showed us how moving our hands and sinking down in our chairs changed our vowels, how crystal goblets help us sing better, how altos don't always have to be viking women with shields, and how relevant "conjunction junction" is to properly singing a phrase. ;)
i am so grateful and beyond blessed to have been able to go to region and state this year.
